Wax Museum and More!

The students and I are very excited about the Wax Museum this Friday at 2:30. The format for this event is an Open House. When you come in the room the students will be in their wax statue poses. There will be a paper button on their desks for you to push and hear their speech. After you have listened to your child, please make your way around the room to hear the other students. You are also welcome to visit the other third grade classroom during this time.
While you are in the classroom please be sure to check out our Solar System projects and our nonfiction books. We have been very busy!!!

Reader's Workshop
In addition to completing our first person narratives we are creating timelines for our Wax Museum. We are also looking at some poetry and answering some questions about the poems.

Writer's Workshop
We are working on answering some short response questions in preparation for the ELA. We are also beginning a new unit this week on persuasive writing. I have a feeling my students are going to be very good at this type of writing!

Math
We are finishing our measurement unit by learning about units of weight. We are also working on multi-step word problems. This week you will see some subtraction review come home for homework. Also, Tuesday we will take our first 5 min multiplication fact quiz. This will need a parent signature for homework on Tuesday night.

Science
We are putting the finishing touches on our Solar System projects. They will be displayed on the walls of our classroom.

Wax Museum

I sent home an important letter today about the Wax Museum. It would be very helpful if you were able to practice the speech that will come home with your child on Thursday. Our Wax Museum will be at 2:30 pm on Friday, April 1st. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

Reader's Workshop
We are working on our first person narratives, and we will write our speeches this week. We are also looking at some reading passages and questions that we might see on the upcoming ELA. Just a reminder, this test will take place in the classroom on the mornings of April 5, 6, and 7th.

Writer's Workshop
We are learning how to write an essay. We have worked on using boxes and bullets as an outline structure, and we are moving on to using a T-chart to help us with a compare and contrast structure.

Math
This week we will finish our geometry unit and begin a unit about volume. We are also working on reviewing for the NY state Math test which will take place in the classroom on the mornings of April 13, 14, and 15th,

Science
We are working on our Solar System projects. The students are using the research to write about each planet of the Solar System. We are pretending we are tour guides, and writing about what each planet has to offer, if we were able to visit.

Thank you to our Mystery Readers from the last few weeks!
